The Season Between Summer and Winter: A Little Moment Worth Remembering

There is something about fall in New York that feels a little different.

The air gets cooler, the light becomes softer, the leaves slowly start changing, and suddenly everything feels a little more beautiful. People are wearing sweaters and coats, kids are running through leaves, and the city feels like it is slowing down just a little before winter arrives. Maybe that's why I love photographing people in the fall so much. It isn't just about the beautiful colors. It's about capturing a little moment before it changes.

Why Fall Portraits Feel So Special

Fall gives us a beautiful natural setting without needing much else.

The warm colors of the leaves, soft afternoon light, trees, parks, sidewalks, and even the little corners of NYC can become part of the photograph. I love letting the environment tell part of the story instead of making everything feel overly posed or perfect. For families, it can be about your children exactly as they are right now—running, laughing, holding your hand, throwing leaves, or simply being silly. Because they won't always be this little.

For a solo portrait, it can be something completely different. Maybe you want to celebrate yourself. Maybe you're turning another year older, starting a new chapter, or simply want beautiful photographs of yourself because you don't need a special reason. You deserve to be in the photographs, too.

It Doesn't Have to Be a “Perfect” Photo

When I photograph families, I don't want every image to look perfectly posed. I want the little things. The way your child looks at you. The way you hold your baby's hand. The laughter that happens when everyone is supposed to be looking at the camera. The wind moving through your hair. Those are the photographs that usually become the favorites.

And for solo portraits, I want the same thing—a portrait that feels like you, not like you're pretending to be someone else. A little movement, a little emotion, beautiful light, and an environment that makes the image feel alive.

How to Prepare for Your Fall Portrait Session

You don't need to overthink it.

Choose clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Layers, sweaters, coats, dresses, boots, and textured fabrics all work beautifully for fall. For families, you don't have to match everyone perfectly. Instead, choose colors and textures that look good together. Bring your children's favorite little things if it helps them feel comfortable. And most importantly, don't worry if they don't behave perfectly. They are kids. They're supposed to run around. I'll guide you through the session and give you simple prompts rather than asking everyone to stand still and smile the entire time.

For a solo session, think about what you want the photographs to feel like. Soft and romantic? Artistic? Strong and confident? Casual and natural?

Bring an outfit that makes you feel like yourself, and we'll build the session around that.

Before Fall Is Gone

Fall in NYC doesn't last forever.

One day the trees are full of color, and before you know it, the leaves are gone and winter is here. That's what makes this season so special to me. It reminds us that everything changes. Our children grow. We grow. Our families change. We move into new chapters of our lives. And sometimes, we just need to stop for a little while and remember where we are right now. So whether you're celebrating your family, your children, a birthday, a new chapter, or simply yourself—

let's take a little piece of this fall with us.

Before the leaves fall, let's capture a little moment worth remembering.
